Making your save the date work
A save the date goes out months before the invitation, so guests can book travel and keep the day free. It carries less detail than the invitation: just the names, the date and the town, and a promise that the formal invitation will follow.
What to write on it
- Both names and the words Save the Date, then the date itself in large type.
- Give the city or venue region, which is what guests need to plan travel.
- Add a line saying a formal invitation will follow, and a wedding website if you have one.
One tip
Send save the dates six to eight months ahead for a local wedding and up to a year for a destination one.
